This simplified world map is designed to support early learners in noticing that French is spoken in many different places in the world apart from France.
Created specifically for Years F-2, the map uses clear colour coding and minimal labels to communicate the key idea visually, without overwhelming students with detail. Highlighted regions show where French is spoken, while the rest of the world remains neutral, allowing young learners to immediately see that French exists beyond France.
This resource is intended as a concept map, not a detailed geography reference, making it ideal for early language and cultural awareness lessons.
Use this map to:
- Introduce the idea that French is spoken in more than one place
- Support oral discussion using simple teacher talk
- Refer back during greetings, songs and routines
- Build cultural awareness without requiring reading or memorisation.
The design allows teachers to point, model language and guide observation, rather than explain complex geographical information.
Designed for Foundation–Year 2
- Minimal labels to reduce cognitive load
- Clear visual contrast for easy noticing
- One highlighted colour used consistently
- Suitable for whole-class viewing
- Supports oral language and discussion rather than written tasks
