The Languages Pathways Program

The Languages Pathways Program is being developed as a fully sequenced Foundation to Year 6 languages curriculum for Australian schools.

It is a structured pathway that builds vocabulary, sentence structure and fluency step by step across year levels.

Why this program is being developed

Many primary language resources provide engaging activities but leave progression and consolidation to individual teachers.

The Languages Pathways Program is being designed to provide:

  • a clear scope and sequence
  • carefully capped and recycled vocabulary
  • built-in retrieval and revision
  • alignment with Australian Curriculum v9
  • consistent lesson structure across units.

The program:

  • Integrates High Impact Teaching Strategies including explicit instruction, multiple exposures, worked examples and structured collaborative speaking practice.
  • supports whole-school consistency by providing a structured progression across year levels.

Launching First

Year 3 – Unit 1: Rooms in the Home

This unit marks the beginning of the Year 3 pathway.

Students will learn to:

  • say what type of home they live in
  • name key rooms in a house
  • ask and answer 'Où est…?'
  • use 'il y a' to describe what is in a room
  • use simple prepositions such as dans, sur and sous
  • speak in short connected phrases with increasing confidence.

This unit establishes the core sentence structures that future units will build upon.

Year 3 Scope Overview

Year 3 is sequenced across four units:

Unit 1 – Rooms in the Home
Core sentence structures and describing rooms and objects

Unit 2 – My Neighbourhood
Describing places and locations

Unit 3 – Months and Seasons
Talking about time, weather and activities

Unit 4 – Leisure
Talking about hobbies and preferences

Each unit builds deliberately on structures introduced earlier in the year.

What is included in each unit?

Each unit includes:

  • 9 ready-to-teach one-hour lessons
  • PowerPoint slides with embedded native speaker audio
  • Full optional teacher scripting
  • Teacher guide
  • Student worksheets
  • Posters and student cards

Every lesson follows a consistent structure:

Review → I Do → We Do → Partner Practise → Class Activity → You Do → Check → Exit

Curriculum Alignment

The program aligns with the Communicating and Understanding strands of the Australian Curriculum v9.

Lessons are designed to ensure students:

  • Initiate and respond in familiar contexts
  • Create short spoken and written texts
  • Recognise sound patterns
  • Notice key language features
  • Explore language and culture connections

Alignment documentation will accompany each unit.

Developed by LTA Education

The Languages Pathways Program is being developed by the original founder of LTA Education (formerly LOTE Teaching Aids), Julie, with over 30 years of classroom teaching and curriculum development experience across Australian primary schools.

Now returning to lead the next phase of LTA Education’s growth, Julie's focus is on building fully sequenced, curriculum-aligned language programs designed for the realities of primary classrooms.

Languages in Development

Year 3 Unit 1 will launch first in French.

Italian, Spanish, German and Indonesian versions are in development and will follow.

Additional year levels will be released progressively as the pathway expands.

Existing LTA Resources

LTA Education’s popular reward products, posters, vocabulary charts and classroom resources will continue to be available.

The Languages Pathways Program builds on this foundation and integrates with existing materials.

This is the beginning.

The Languages Pathways Program represents the next stage in LTA Education’s development — expanding into a structured, Foundation to Year 6, curriculum-aligned pathway for primary language learning in Australia.

Year 3 Unit 1 is the first step.
